Jacqueline Cannon Receives Board Certification in Family Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization
The Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) announced Jacqueline Cannon received Board Certification in Family Law. Jackie currently practices Family Law in Denton and Collin counties, where she is a shareholder of CokerLegal.
Board Certification is a voluntary designation program certifying Texas attorneys in 22 specific areas of law. Board Certified attorneys must be licensed for at least five years, devote a required percentage of practice to a specialty area for at least three years, attend continuing education seminars, pass an evaluation by fellow lawyers and judges, and pass a 6-hour written examination. Approximately 10% of Texas attorneys received this special designation for his or her commitment to excellence in the practice of Family Law.
“An attorney has to do something extra to get certified and then they have to continue to work and acquire knowledge in their specialty area to remain certified. You could say it is a life-long commitment,” said Hal Moorman, Chairman of the TBLS Board of Directors.
“We at CokerLegal are proud to welcome Jackie to the prestigious ranks of board-certified family lawyers,” said Duane L. Coker, Founding Shareholder at CokerLegal. “As the third board certified family lawyer in our firm, Jacqueline Cannon further demonstrates our continued dedication to provide the highest level of service to our clients.”
Cannon is a 2007 graduate of Texas Wesleyan University School of Law (now Texas A&M University School of Law). She began her career at Legal Aid of Northwest Texas and joined CokerLegal in August 2008. In addition to being Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Family law, she is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Denton Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and is a certified mediator. She was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star by Thompson Reuters in 2014 and 2015.
Jackie joins Duane L. Coker and Shareholder Kelly K. E. Robb as attorneys at CokerLegal who hold Board Certification in Family Law. Initial Board Certification is valid for five years. To remain certified attorneys and paralegals must apply for recertification every five years and meet substantial involvement, peer review, and continuing legal education requirements for their specialty area.
