Summer Science Opportunities
May passed in a flurry of activity for our program, and June is following fast suit!
With the academic year over at Queen's University, our program ramps up our outreach wing. Look for us on the road at a pow-wow near you, or take advantage of our Aboriginal student bursary for Science Quest Camp in the Kingston area. Local FNMI youth can participate at a camp of their choice, provided by Aboriginal Access to engineering. And how does engineering affect your life? Our video contest closes on June 20 - don't forget to get those entries in! Education is a journey of a lifetime, and we aim to support that journey. Please follow us on facebook and twitter for regular updates in Aboriginal STEM initiatives.

For Parents and Teachers
Year End Lesson Ideas
Report cards are written and everyone is counting the days. Why not make the most of them? End of year can be a lots of fun, and still time for lots of learning. Great ideas provided here...in particular the chemical reaction of the tin-can ice cream activity.
Yours for the Summer!
For parents, summer is time to take on a full time role as your child's first teacher. Fortunately, there are a lot of fun activities you can find online to get you through the days, like looking for m echanical engineering in the toy box!

Student and Teacher Conferences
Science and engineering education
The month of May found us travelling far and wide, from Vancouver to Prince Edward Island, meeting Aboriginal teachers and students from across Turtle Island. At ANTEC - Atlantic Native Teacher Education Conference, our Director Melanie Howard shared a promising program for family engagement and also hosted a workshop on cultural storytelling as a springboard to engineering design. Outreach Coordinator Joe Brant met students from BC at Indspire, teachers from Manitoba and education counselors from across Ontario. We thank everyone for their sharing and time spent with us, and look forward to seeing you soon!
