Today is #GIVINGTUESDAY NOW A global day of emergency giving and unity in response to COVID-19
In the blink of an eye, 50% of ACBX's income evaporated and another 40% was severely reduced as a result of the closing of our studio. Overnight, the ACBX studio which was characterized by being a vibrant and lively space became a storage facility for distribution of basic household items for some NYC shelters.
We did not imagine this turn of the page during our anticipated 10 years of ACBX anniversary celebration year.
The sudden loss of school-based programs and closure of our studio presents an eminent thread to the existence of our space, our organization and the livelihood of those who manage its operations.
As unique as the art of Capoeira is, such is the bond built in our community of students and families. Many of our students continue to attend virtual classes, make small donations and remain in constant contact with us. We have actively engaged in seeking emergency funding, although we await a response.
