Sir Jackie Stewart Joins Rostrum as Special Guest for Picnic in the Park with Scott Pruett

MONTEREY, Calif., Aug. 3, 2015 — Sir Jackie Stewart, OBE, one of the greatest and most respected names in the history of motor racing, has been named special guest at the Aug. 15 Picnic in the Park celebration held during the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Aug. 13-16, at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Stewart will join sports car legend and award-winning winemaker Scott Pruett, named in June as the Picnic in the Park’s honored guest, and noted motorsports historian Murray Smith to recount stories and tales from their unmatched and distinguished motorsports careers.

A young and mostly unknown Stewart made his U.S. racing debut in May 1965 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca driving a factory Lotus Cortina sedan to a 13th-place overall finish in the USRRC race. “The Flying Scot” went on to earn three Formula 1 World Championships (1969, 1971, 1973) for Tyrrell on the strength of 27 race victories (still eighth-most all time), 43 podium finishes and 17 pole positions in just 99 starts from 1965 to 1973. Stewart’s fame in the U.S. was further bolstered by a successful television broadcasting career as a motor racing analyst from 1971 to 1986.

The annual Picnic in the Park begins at 12:30 in the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca marketplace and is a great opportunity for fans to bring their lunch, listen to stories and ask questions. The Saturday-only picnic is a popular activity that allows fans to engage with motorsports legends.

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is one of the cornerstones of the renowned Monterey Classic Car Week and is the largest event held annually in the scenic coastal community. Visitors worldwide descend on the community to enjoy the historic cars in action, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the myriad of supporting activities that comprise the motoring week.
