Mica Esquenazi, National Student Secretary

MS4s are getting ready for residency, MS3s are still in the thick of their work, MS2s are working hard for boards, and MS1s are marveling at the fact that they can finally take an H&P. All of these milestones bring us all one step closer to effectively serving others through medicine. This edition of the NewsFlash highlights spectacular ways that AMWA can support your journey though medicine. Read about discounts on study and clinical materials, publishing opportunities, our new global health scholarship, and the various avenues through which you can help improve women's health. Wishing all the best to outgoing MS4s who will be joining the AMWA Resident Division.

Resident On Call: Personalized Q&A with AMWA Residents!
Submit your questions here by May 29th
Resident On Call is a new AMWA program that brings together AMWA's resident and medical student divisions. Every month, an AMWA resident will be taking questions from all AMWA medical students. All questions will be screened and those chosen for "Resident On Call" will be answered through the AMWA blog.

May's Resident On Call is: Marissa Orenstein

Marissa Orenstein is excited to be AMWA's first Resident On Call! Marissa just graduated from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and is beginning her intern year in pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She is the immediate past president of AMWA's National Medical Student Division and currently serves as AMWA's resident recruitment chair. Marissa is also a member of AOA, Phi Beta Kappa and the Iron Arrow Honor Society. She will be starting her intern year on June 11th, so for now the best questions would be targeted toward the application process, externships, traveling for interviews, and selecting your top programs. She would be happy to check in later in the year once she has some "expertise" all that an intern year in pediatrics entails!

AMWA has identified human trafficking as a pressing issue to be addressed.  Interest in this prevalent issue has resulted in Dr. Kanani Titchen's IRB approved study to identify healthcare worker's knowledge of the topic, workshops on identifying and assisting trafficked victims, a discussion with Rachel Lloyd (author of Girls Like Us), and currently a position paper.  For more information on the initiative click here.
