The 2013 Fellows will be inducted at the NAI annual meeting to be held March 6 - 7, 2014 at the USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, VA.


Elected NAI Fellows and their institutions are listed on a plaque on permanent display at the USPTO.

 

Nominations Now Open

Early Nomination Period Now Open for Member Institutions

NAI Charter Member Institutions are invited to begin submitting nominations for 2013 Fellows. Open nominations for non-members will begin on July 14.

Election to NAI Fellow status is a high professional distinction accorded to academic inventors who have demonstrated a highly prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development, and the welfare of society. 
Nominees must be a named inventor on at least one patent issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and must be affiliated with a university, nonprofit research institute or governmental entity.

The 2012 Charter class of NAI Fellows were inducted by U.S. Commissioner for Patents, Margaret A. Focarino at the annual meeting. 101 distinguished inventors and innovators were elected,representing 56 prestigious research universities and non-profit research institutes. Collectively, the 2012 Fellows hold more than 3,200 U.S. patents.

Included in the Charter class are eight Nobel Laureates, 14 presidents of research universities and non-profit research institutes, 53 members of the National Academies (NAS, NAE, IOM), 11 inductees of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, three recipients of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, four recipients of the National Medal of Science, and 31 AAAS Fellows, among other awards and distinctions.
