Great Adventure Ministry Update Header

August 23rd, 2011

Hello Friends!

How quickly summer has seemed to fly!  Our family is rather puzzled at the already cooler temperatures, the geese "practicing" for their flight down South, and the strange weather for August (generally one of the hottest months of the year).  But while we cannot control the weather (or even understand it at times!), we know Who controls the weather!

This newsletter is filled with exciting news, fun tidbits for you, and family updates - read on to catch up with the Garms!  Remember to keep in touch; we love to hear from you!

Blessings and Joy in the Journey!

We are on a roll again...for our next CD release!  I was just talking with Leesha, and she was stating how unusual our second CD is compared to other group's second CDs, because our second is going to be a Christmas CD!

That's right, Great Adventure Gospel Band is in the process of making our first (but not last) Christmas project!  Leesha had noted that most groups don't come out with Christmas projects until they have quite a few CD's under their belt.  But I guess we do things a little differently…we just can't help singing about Christmas and our Savior's birth!  Why not celebrate year-round!  It is going to have some of your favorites, including "Angels We Have Heard On High", "Silent Night", and "At The Right Time", which are much-loved by our audiences everywhere.

We are at this time in the recording stage of the CD process.  Vocals and instruments are being carefully recorded, in preparation for mixing and final mastering.  All of the engineering is being handled by your's truly, for a truly home-produced project!  And I love each step of the process!  Through Dad and the Lord's guidance it has come about that I am now in a "career" field that I plan to stay in and grow.  Praise be to the Lord for His glorious blessings and for music that reaches us with His saving message!

Be looking for the project around fall time; we are so excited about the privilege we have to sing and record these wonderful songs that will remind you of the awesome Gift God gave us through His Son that first Christmas!

In His Grace,
Ben

The Glory Bus

Would You Help Us?

The Glory Bus is currently parked in our gravel driveway, home from a "doctor appointment" - ah, em, trip to the local repair man.  We brought it in for re-alignment, only to discover it needs a lot more work done...in fact, over $5,000 in repairs.  The steering gear and the kingpins are worn and needing replacement...soon, and the transmission is showing signs of wear.  Would you consider helping us cover the costs of these important repairs?  As Caleb said "We wouldn't want to be going down the road at 50 miles per hour and have our wheel fly off.  That would be bad!"   Every gift would help, and would be appreciated.  (We are not a non-profit organization, so your contributions won't be tax-deductable.)  Currently the Glory Bus has been taking us safely to each venue and we are grateful for it.  We are trusting in the Lord to provide, as He has over and over again, and we would count it an honor to have you join this ministry in this important way!

Floyd Gospel Sing - September 9th - 10th, 2011The Midwest Quartet Convention - October 21st-22nd, 2011

There are several upcoming events you want to put on your calendar!

* First, the Floyd Gospel Sing in Floyd, Iowa is fast approaching!  On September 9th -10th, 30 regional and national Southern Gospel groups are gathering for two days of music, worship, and fellowship.  Several thousand people attend this sing each year and it continues to grow!  Make plans to attend today!  (For more information, click on the Floyd Gospel Sing button above.)  We will be performing three times: on Friday (9/9), we'll sing at 11:40 a.m. and then later at 7:00 p.m.; on Saturday (9/10), we'll sing at 2:00 p.m.   Also, that Sunday we'll be singing at the Floyd Gospel Lighthouse in Floyd, IA at 10:30 a.m.

* We were exceedingly honored and humbled to be asked earlier this year to open for
Legacy Five on September 23rd, 2011.  (Our first reaction was, "NO WAY!" :) )  We are very excited (and yes, VERY nervous) to "warm up the audience" for our "Favorite Quartet of Today", and are looking forward to a night of fun and praising the Lord.  (And yes, we still claim the front pew!)  The concert starts officially at 7:30 p.m., but our set begins a short time before then.  Tickets are $16 in advance and $19 at the door, so order yours today to join us for this special concert!  (Click on the Legacy Five button to get more details and order tickets.)

* On October 21st - 22nd, 2011, you'll find our family joining other Midwest Quartet Association member groups for a weekend of great Southern Gospel music at the MWQA Convention.  The convention is held at the Adventureland Palace in Altoona, Iowa and many people enjoy this time of music, encouragement, and fun.  As we have been spreading the word through flyers at our concerts, we have received quite a bit of interest about this event in particular.  And for those who have asked, we will be singing
Friday, October 21st @ 7:40 p.m. and Saturday, October 22nd @ 3:00 p.m.  Click on the MWQA button to head over to their website for more information.  Also, on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, we will be singing at First Christian Disciples of Christ Church at 10:00 a.m. ; so make plans to join us there as well!  (For more info on this concert, visit
http://www.iowasoutherngospel.com.)

* Don't forget to check out our concert calendar for all upcoming dates!  Click on our Great Adventure Concert Schedule button to go directly to our calendar.

Well, that wraps it up!  It has been a year of growing, learning, and seeing the Hand of God work amazingly in our lives.  We have been enjoying meeting y'all at the concerts throughout the year and look forward to seeing you again soon!

Blessings and Joy in the Journey!
