President's Message
I want to wish a "Happy New Year" to all of those at our 21 residency programs in Ohio. While June is always a time to look back on the academic year with graduation, July brings new interns eager to learn and prove themselves and new roles and expectations for junior and senior residents. I always enjoy pointing out to new second year residents how far they have come in only the past twelve months as the new interns look to them for help in the department and on the floors. For seniors residents, the end is finally in sight. The excitement, and at times fear, of finally reaching the end as they begin moonlighting and the job search.
However, as I considered each of the years of residency, this past week a stark contrast was brought into focus for me and many other physicians around Ohio. EM Residency Spotlight
Submitted by University Wright State University Emergency Medicine Residency
Happy summer, everyone! Our integrated EM residency is one of the oldest accredited programs in the country, as well as one of the largest (16 residents per year) in the state. We also offer some other unique experiences… [Read more]

Past President Heads for NOLA, Bids Farewell to Ohio
By Michael Smith, MD, MBA, FACEP
After being born and raised in Ohio and spending 12 years of my career in northeast Ohio, our family is relocating to New Orleans, Louisiana. Having spent the better part of eight years on the board of Ohio ACEP, I cannot begin to expound on the emergency physician leaders and advocates that we have in this state, along with the significant educational enterprise. Ohio ACEP, its board of directors, staff, and Laura, will be a big reason to miss and fondly remember Ohio.
Best wishes,
Mike Smith, MD, MBA, FACEP
Past President, Ohio ACEP
Ohio ACEP thanks Dr. Smith for his dedicated service to Ohio’s emergency physicians. Dr. Smith, we will miss you, and we wish you the best of luck in New Orleans!

Feedback Requested for IRB-Approved Ultrasound Study
One of our Ohio ACEP colleagues, Mohamad Moussa, MD, RDMS, is conducting a research study on ED physician use of ultrasound.
As part of the study—which has been approved by the Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center Institutional Review Board (IRB# 0615104)—Dr. Moussa has requested a moment of your time to take an anonymous, 12-question survey about your experience with use of bedside ultrasound for clinical decision-making.
Thank you in advance for lending your time and expertise for this important study!
