Action Needed: Public Records Reform in Danger
Attacks by Municipal Lobbies Threaten Bill
You may have seen news reports this week that legislation to reform the public records law appeared to be moving towards approval. That all changed overnight as the result of aggressive lobbying by the Massachusetts Municipal Association and other municipal lobbying groups.
Although the bill (HB 3665) had been scheduled for a vote in the House this week, that session has now been cancelled and the bill may now be effectively killed.
You Can Help Save Public Records Reform
Massachusetts has one of the weakest public records laws in the nation. Reform is urgently needed. You can help bring that about:
- Consider running editorials in favor of the bill.
- Report on the public records law and efforts to reform it.
- Contact your legislators and let them know your support for this bill.
The need for action is immediate. Please do what you can to support this critical issue.
