Welcome 2021, Year of the Ox
We wish you all a happy New Year! Each new year brings renewed energy and possibilities, and 2021 is no different. While our studio remains closed for now, we are beginning to anticipate the return of in-person practices and live events, which have not been possible for so many months.
This year also marks a milestone for our group; our organization is celebrating 35 years of ensemble taiko!
Founded in 1986 as a result of a joint effort between Japanese Americans in St. Louis and our Japanese sister city, Suwa, we are proud to be among the oldest taiko ensembles in North America. From our origins as a children's group (pictured above), we have evolved into a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing the art of taiko throughout Missouri and surrounding areas, through performances, classes, and workshops for people of all ages.
For now, we continue to connect virtually whenever we can but we are looking forward to the return of live performances. We can't wait to celebrate this anniversary and the spirit of taiko with all of you. Until then, be well!
